Downloading and Installing Python
Before you start, you will need Python on your computer, but you may not need to download it. First of all check that you don't already have Python installed by entering python in a command line window. If you see a response from a Python interpreter it will include a version number in its initial display. Generally any recent version will do, as Python makes every attempt to maintain backwards compatibility.
Writing Programs in IDLE’s File Editor
This session explains how to run the IDLE integrated development environment (IDE) for editing and running Python 2.x or Python 3 programs. The IDLE GUI (graphical user interface) is automatically installed with the Python interpreter. IDLE was designed specifically for use with Python. IDLE has a number of features to help you develop your Python programs including powerful syntax highlighting.
Import Statements
This tutorial goes over the mechanism of importing those packages - making extra functionality (maybe someone else's code) accessible to your code. Once we've covered the basics of importing, we'll talk about version conflicts and introduce a common tool used for avoiding such conflicts - the virtual environment.
Functions, Loops, Blocks
A function is a block of organized, reusable code that is used to perform a single, related action. Functions provide better modularity for your application and a high degree of code reusing.
Data Type, Comparison Operators, Conditions
A Decision is when a program has more than one choice of actions depending on a variable's value. Think of a traffic light. When it is green, we continue our drive. When we see the light turn yellow, we reduce our speed, and when it is red, we stop. These are logical decisions that depend on the value of the traffic light. Luckily, Python has a decision statement to help us when our application needs to make such decision for the user.
Looping
In general, statements are executed sequentially: The first statement in a function is executed first, followed by the second, and so on. There may be a situation when you need to execute a block of code several number of times. Programming languages provide various control structures that allow for more complicated execution paths.
